| A Lovely 4/4 Violin by Ernst Heinrich Roth Bubenreuth Erlangen, 1956 Reproduction of Josef Guarnerius, Cremona, 1734 as found, with original certificate, bow & case
This is a real pretty fiddle! It is lightweight and perky- sounds terrific in my opinion. It has its original case and certificate, E. H. Roth bow, chin-rest and bridge (needs replacing, that). The violin is full size, with a back measuring 352 mm, 13.75 inches. It has no cracks or repairs or open seams, only it is dirty and has some general light varnish wear, minor gathering and nicks and such. The original pegs work quite well and held the strings under tension for 30 or 40 years perhaps, curling the bridge and descending the neck angle 4-5 mm. The case has its original grubby canvas cover which holds the certificate in its pocket. The case handle is broken and there is no key. The bow is straight and still has it's hair and silver wrap. There is grime on the violin; in the corners, on the button and top of the scroll and on the fingerboard. A little varnish is worn off the lower bass corner of the top.It is labeled and branded and has the serial number 947 and the certificate states it to be a II-R model. I put new-old strings on it and it sounds terrific and is very responsive with excellent volume, just a real nice old violin. To Summarize, this violin will need: A cleaning by a qualified technician A new bridge & strings a checkup for an optional neck angle adjustment a new case handle
