Best selling Scottish Bagpipe CD by the Masters of Piping
THE LAST PIPER
A unique tribute by four of the world's best pipers: Angus MacColl, Roddy MacLeod, Stuart Shedden and Gordon Walker.
- The Last Piper gets its title from Harry Lunan of the Gordon Highlanders, who was the last surviving piper of WWI. His story is featured in the award winning documentary Instrument of War . Not only did Harry earn fame in battle by leading his company, armed only with his bagpipes, into a suicidal attack on enemy trenches at the Battle of the Somme but he also knew and served with the legendary pipe music composer G. S. MacLennan.
- On this Tribute to Harry each piper, a champion Gold Medal winner, will play a selection of GS MacLennan tunes as well as some others.
Some of the tracks Include:
- Gordon Walker: King George V's Army; Muir of Ord; The Jig of Slurs; Biddy from Sligo; and finally Gordon's own arrnagement of Caber Feidh played in March, Strathspey, Reel and Jig times.
- Angus MacColl: Conon Bridge; Artafallie; The Little Cascade; Pipers Cave; Lucy Cassidy;
- Roddy MacLeod: Inveran; Maggie Cameron; Flight of Eagles; The 8th Argylls Crossing the Po.
- Stuart Sheddon: Captain C.R. Lumsden; Kitchener's Army; The Unknown Warrior.
This superb collection of tunes is the best piping album to be found anywhere.
