Today's item up for bids is a great one indeed. If you like the guitar work of bands like The Who and Buffalo Springfield, you're gonna love this amp. You don't need one stinkin' pedal to achieve the legendary "Pete Townsend" tone with this amplifier. All you need to do is plug in your guitar, turn all the knobs all the way up and use your guitars volume to control the breakup. Truly, it is a prime example of how early Sunns were meant to be used. This amp is similar in design to the early 200S, but with EL34's instead of 6550's, giving the amp about 40 Watts of tube power. The Power and output transformers are the orginal Dynaco's that were used by Sunn in the early days of production. This amplifier can be seen in the 1967 and 1968 Sunn equipment brochures. It was intended for the Bass Guitar and was accompanied by a single JBL D140F or another cab with 2 D140F's. I have been using a Gibson ES-339 with 57 Classics and it has performed very well with that guitar. This amps pots are dating to 1966 and 1967. The insides seem to be the original circuit with some replaced film resistors here and there. Probably in an effort to eliminate any noise that may have been coming from the amps high drive section. Seriously, no distortion pedals needed on this one. All you might need to do is give it a clean boost and your gonna be in tone heaven. It will stay clean with Strats up to about 5 on the Volume knob with both of the boost switches in the OFF position. If you are using humbuckers, you'll be better to use the guitar volume to clean up. This amp does it great and is very touch sensitive to your attack. This amp is currently equipped with a vintage Realistic "Lifetime" 5AR4 ... which is a great replacement for the originally called for GZ34. The power section has a matched pair of "Winged C" 6CA7/EL34's. I cannot recall what brand the 7199 tube is, but it still sounds great, neither can I recall the brand of 12AX7. The amp has been checked out and some repairs have been made. I opted to leave the original cap can in the amp and install a terminal board to replace the all the filter and power caps. Two Sprague Atom 40uf/ 450V caps for the Power Filter Section and 2 modern type 22uf/350V Caps for the preamp section. After updating the caps, headroom was greatly increased and the amp opened up nice and loud. The original 2 prong cord has not been replaced, so the polarity switch on the front is still operational. If you look at the schematic provided by the people at "The Unofficial Sunn Web-Site", the output transformer has taps for 4, 8 or 16 Ohm operation. The two output jacks are set up for 4 and 8 Ohm Loads at the present. A 16 Ohm Tap wire is soldered to an open terminal inside the amp. The most exciting thing about this amps condition is the inside of the chassis. It is super gleaming clean in there. So, if you wanna utilize the 16 Ohm Tap, just get in there with the schematic and swap it for the 4 Ohm Tap. Its very easy to do. If you like, I can even do it for you. Overall, the amps physical condition is great. There are areas on the inside of the cabinet where tolex is trying to pull off. But, its been there for so long, its not going to become a big enough problem to have to repair. All the cabinets hardware is original. It is also equipped with soft rubber feet and stays put on whatever it is put on top of. I have used this amp for the past month is my Church Group and the amp has performed very well. I currently have too many amps to justify keeping them all, so this one will be one of them that goes. It just doesn't get enough use for me to keep it around. Not saying it sounds bad, cause it sure doesn't. Everything about this amp screams PETE TOWNSEND. When you receive it and try it for the first time, I think you will agree with that. This amp will have a packed weight of around 40lbs.. If you use the BUY IT NOW option, I will ship the amp to you for Free (lower 48 states only). The amp is offered to US and Canada Bidders only with no exceptions. The amp is offered in "AS IS" Condtion with no returns. The last one of these that sold on eBay went for almost $700.00 USD. When you hear the tones coming from this amp, you'll know why. My price is well below that. Use the Buy It Now option to get and exceptional deal with shipping included. Thanks for looking and God Bless. These do not come up very often at all, so don't waste too much time, you may just miss out. Someone will nail this deal!
