My Dad was one of the great Swing Era musicians (see his memorial pages at Navylights, as well as the Big Band Database). We lost him to Alzheimer's in 2004, and among his estate items I've found a gold finish Calicchio trumpet in beautiful condition, original case, serial number 15xx. I believe it is a 'C' pitch instrument, by comparison with other images of Calicchio instruments.
This golden beauty is in remarkable condition, in the original zippered hard case. All parts move freely. I'm no longer a musician and cannot fairly judge intonation, but after running a few practice scales I can say the horn's compression sounds so good that I briefly pondered a return to my trumpet playing days. It's been brought to my attention that neighbors prefer I not do so ..something about the cattle stampeding ..
but I digress ..
Did you know Dominic Calicchio's hand made instruments were custom built to the musician and meant to last a lifetime? This seems no exception. It does not appear to have or need repairs; all welds and braces seem perfect and the pistons are numerically matched to the horn.
I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have about the horn, if at all possible. It carries so many memories for me that it is difficult to sell but my family ...and neighbors... have convinced me it is the right thing to do.
The horn's estimated insurance value is about $2500, through the kindness of Mr. Dave Johnson at JRD/Calicchio. There is a very modest reserve, but you will be getting a GREAT deal .. I've lowered the price yet again!
