Features
:

Aria FA-80 is single cutaway, full hollow-body guitar equiped with
Bigsby licenced vibrato, made from laminated maple (top, side and
back), with maple set in neck (64cm, long scale). All in polyurethane
gloss with bindings even on f-holes. There is an optional rosewood
tune-O-matic bridge, rosewood fingerboard, Grover tuners and "gretschy"
positioned dots (close to uper neck binding).
The pickups are gibsonish humbucking type (tipically 8,1K) made by
Duncan Designed (see their site), switchable to single-coil mode (as a
pair only) and controled by two volumes, two tones and master volume
plus three poles pickup selector. Volumes and tones are chrome
telecaster type.
By the way, it is impossible to switch Gretsch filtertrons to single
coil because they're only 4.1K, and these Duncan pickups got nothing in
common neither with filtertrons neither with hilotrons (which are
Gretsch version of single coil pickups to substitute DeArmond Dynasonic
2000). Nothing except good clean and crystal signal.
I have chosen walnut color - orange and red wine are also available.
Sound
:
10
Aria FA-80 is a combination of Gretschish outlook and twangy
country-rockabilly sounding of Gibson provenience (sindrom, Chet
Atkins' Tenessian and Country gentleman made by notorious urban blues
& jazz luthiers), with specific voice very much on its own. The
sound is pretty much compressed in a good meaning - no peaks and downs,
no huge resonant oscilations. Sweet and clean, punchy and silver
sparkling (single coil mode), beafy and warm (humbucker mode), with
moderate sustain ideal for chordal polifony when "divisi" of strings is
necessary.
Pickups are of classic (neck) and custom (bridge) sort, which is
already recognizible as Seymour Duncan "handwritting", as well as the
fact that whenever possible he incorporates a piece of his Tele
approach to a common 2-pickup design (Duncan Designed).
Aria FA-80 works equaly well plugged in Fender Twin Reverb w/JBL
speakers, Vox AC30, Marshall VS1OOR (with Fender D-112 extension
speaker cabinet), Kustom Tube 12 combo...Recorded sound directly to
Roland VS1680 work-station discovers it as a smooth and professionaly
balanced guitar capable for distinguished studio operating.
Mid pickup position in single coil mod is among the most charmy and
inocent imaginable, while the bridge position in humbucker mod is a
real beast - crunchy British blues tone from the 60's.
The former position is the most beautiful rhythm guitar sound I ever
heard from an electric one: electric energy plus totaly acoustic vibe.
"Loud" and tranparently sonoric and noble.
