More great vintage gear! Up for auction is another serious piece of electronic music history. In my humble opinion, this is the coolest analog synth ever made. The Prophet 5 broke ground in 1978 as the first programmable polyphonic synth to hit the commerical market. This 5 voice synth was big, warm and very powerful, changing the face of pop music and sound design for decades. This one is the latest incarnation: Rev 3.3 with the original factory MIDI - arguably the most stable and reliable of the Prophet models. This is currently owned by legendary film composer and sound designer Alan Howarth (Star Trek I, II, III, IV, Halloween, Poltergeist, Jurassic Park, etc.).

This is the ACTUAL synth that was used on Alan's famous soundtrack for the John Carpenter blockbuster: Halloween. This was also used by Alan Howarth on other for sound design and music composition for "Escape from New York," "Christine," and "Big Trouble in Little China." This piece has an incredible legacy in Hollywood sound design history. This synthesizer is mint and as cherry as they come. It's a 9.8 out of 10. It is one of the finest Prophets I have seen in years. Also...this has the highly-sought after custom Dave Smith analog white noise mod, replacing the digital "loopy" sounding white noise. Alan is the SOLE owner. This synth was just serviced here in Los Angeles by Advanced Musical Electronics, and was given a clean bill of health and works 100% perfectly. Prophet 5 highlights:

The Prophet-5 was an analog synthesizer manufactured by Sequential Circuits in San Jose, California between 1978 and 1984. The Prophet 5 was groundbreaking in that it was one of the first analog synthesizers to implement patch memory, a feature which stored user settings of every parameter on the synthesizer into internal memory. It is also one of the first polyphonic synthesizers, with a maximum polyphony of 5 voices, meaning that up to 5 notes can sound at the same time. The Prophet-5 was also known for its modulation capabilities. The "Poly-Mod" feature routed the output of the filter envelope generator and the second oscillator in each voice through two mixer knobs, which could then be connected to the pulse width and pitch controls on the first oscillator, to the filter cutoff frequency control, or all three at the same time. Since the second VCO was not limited to being an LFO, this allowed the Prophet-5 to generate 2-operator FM synthesis and ring modulator-style effects, as well as complex sweeping sounds. Three revisions were produced, the first two using oscillators manufactured by Solid State Music, and the last one (Revision 3) using chips from Curtis Electronics.
