Description:
Up for auction is one of the most desirable Jazz trumpets of all time!! Designed by a Committee of some of the finest brass instrument designers of all time (Renold Schilke, Vincent Bach, Elden Benge, and Foster Reynolds) and endorsed by some of the most legendary Jazz musicians of all time. (Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Art Farmer, Maynard Ferguson, and MANY more!!)
This trumpet that you have the opportunity to own has had only one owner, and happens to fall in the category of one of the most desirable vintages (1945) of Martin Committees!! The son of the original owner discovered the case just a week ago and was surprised to discover a horn inside! Unfortunately, the leadpipe was wrapped in tape. Because of the residue on the tape some of the lacquer has come off. However, upon inspection it seems there was no apparent reason for the tape. On trombones we often find the neckpipe wrapped in tape to keep the musicians neck from contacting brass and turning green. We're not sure why this guy wrapped this with tape? It would seem much like the old trumpet "voodoo" (i.e. putting a match in the tuning slide leg...) wrapping this was a way of affecting how the horn played? It would make sense. The rest of the horn is about as good as you could dream!! It is all original and shows no signs of ever being badly damaged. In fact the only signs of previous work done to this horn is the 2nd Valve slide appears to have had the pull nob and one of the legs re-soldered. The bell flare is flawless and doesn't even show signs of a mute being used. The main tuning slide crook, 1st crook, and 3rd crook are near MINT with the exception of one small lacquer blemish spot on the main crook. Only one knuckle has ever had a dent (Which we removed) The valves are all VERY tight and feel great. The casings only show surface lacquer scratches and NO pitting or scratches in the brass at all!!! Again this horn has never had any broken braces at all. (Just that 2nd crook work I already mentioned) The bell bow does have two very very faint flat spots and the bell throat has a mild dent. Those will all be taken care of before we ship the horn out!! The lacquer is about 92% intact and is all Original!! From it's age it has that very cool dark coloring. The instrument has been Ultrasonically Cleaned and Chemically Treated. The valves have been given a precision valve alignment, and the waterkey corks replaced with new premium quality synthetic pads.
The horn plays extremely well! I don't know how the previous owner acquired this instrument, however I'd believe it if he hand picked this off the factory floor. This is one of the better Committee's I have ever had the chance to play. It slots very well. The horn is extremely responsive and plays very well in tune up top. It has a rich creamy oozing sound with a larger cup mouthpiece, and can be a screechy lead horn with a shallow piece. Basically you can tell it what to do and it does it!!
Don't miss the opportunity to own one fantastic example of a truly Rare Vintage Martin Committee trumpet. We have an extremely reasonable reserve, priced to sell!! Good luck and happy bidding!! ;o)
