1985 VOX AC30 - the SILVER JUBILEE model by Rose-Morris. BUT WAIT! Keep reading!
This one has undergone both cosmetic and internal surgery. Fret cloth has been changed to early '60's Brown. A 1965 and 1966 Celestion Blue/Silver has been added to the amp - original AC30 60's speakers!! Groovy! I then brought it to Don 'The Toneman' Butler and he changed all of the signal path caps, resistors and filter caps ~ bringing it back to JMI specs.
For what it's worth, this amp was used as a main stage amp at every VOXFEST in California since 2000. Yes, even The Electric Prunes have plugged into this one!
Before it all sounds too rosy - the amp has been retired since 2005. I fired it up today and and it most likely needs to be cleaned and retubed as it is a bit crackly and microphonic. Selling as-is - I'm not a tech or even a tube changer. * ADDED** I just let this monster warm up for about a half hour and plugged a nice 60's Strat into it - sheer heaven - chimey and full. That great Vox sound. * AND MORE * The crackling I described earlier was from my balky Gretsch Tennessean because I've been firing this up for the past week now and it rocks.
SOME FAQ's: Is this amp particularly rare? No. Does it work? Heck, yes! Does it sound like a JMI AC-30? It's as close as you can get thanks to the Blues and mods. The starting bid covers what the speakers alone are worth! Bid today! Bid often! Good luck!!
