This is a beautiful vintage 50’s Kay archtop acoustic guitar. I bought it at an estate sale of the original owner and it is in excellent condition. When I first saw it, I thought it was an old Gibson. It came with what looks like the original hardshell case. It was probably shoved under a bed and left there for decades. I brought it home, took off the old strings and polished it back to practically new. When I put on the new strings, two of the original plastic buttons broke in my hand and I’ve replaced them all with new. The strings and the tuning buttons are the only things I’ve changed. It plays and sounds wonderful.
You can see from the photos that there is just a little “lean” wear on the headstock. Also, in the photos, there is a small mar at the f-hole. It doesn’t appear to be a scratch, more like flaw that wasn’t discovered until it was painted. There are also two small nicks on the neck each about 1mm in diameter.
Everything else is in great shape. Whoever played this must have finger picked because the pick guard shows almost no wear. The ivory colored bindings and heel cap are tight as is the stylized “Kay” logo on the headstock. The model # K1 8901 is stamped inside and is clearly visible through the lower sound hole. I’ve only ever had to tune the stretch out of the strings, since then it has stayed wonderfully in tune.
As I said, the case is probably original. It is not in as good condition as the guitar but it is still very serviceable. Besides being way old, it is also missing the handle.
I will ship this anywhere in the contiguous states. Shipping is a flat rate of $50. I can only accept Pay Pal and I’ll only ship after I’ve received payment. I will pack this well and ship it within two business days after payment.
This is a beautiful collectable that was built to be played. Good Luck.
