This is the Legendary Martin Committee "Deluxe" Model, "Bb" Trumpet, with that Eye Catching, Up-Turned Bell, MADE FAMOUS by the Great Jazz Trumpeter, "DIZZY GILLESPIE". Martin Committee Trumpets (with straight Bells) were also played by Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Maynard Ferguson, and Al Hirt. Yeah, those Trumpeters ! This Trumpet has a wonderful sound, and goes easily up, up into the high Octaves with a very smooth Valve Action. All in All a Very Desirable Instrument. Now, this Trumpet came into my possession recently, and as I am just a lowly, Rotary Valve Flugelhorn Player, doing Historical presentations, and at the age of 59 years, I have no real desire to get back to my old "Jazz Chops". SO.....I have to let go of it, Wife's Orders ! Here's the details: This Trumpet has been in STORAGE for the past 52 YEARS, and from the looks of it, has hardly ever been PLAYED. However, I will say that it is a USED instrument, as there is ONE very tiny, "granular" ding in the Bell, and some SMALL, limited, wear on the Lacquer. I think this probably happened, by moving the Original Case around, with the Trumpet inside, in and out of many Closets and Attics etc. over the years. The Lacquer is 98.6 percent THERE on this Trumpet, so I don't think you will have to RE-Lacquer the instrument for many years to come. The SERIAL NUMBER is: #201545, which, as the year 1956 started with #194213 AND 1957 started off with # 201809, I'm going to say that this Trumpet was made in late 1956. This information is on HORN U COPIA net, so PLEASE look it up. The Bore is Medium SIZE, and is determined by measuring the I.d. of the little U-shaped slide on the 2nd (Middle) Valve. This Internal Diameter, measured with my Calipers, comes in at .450". The final, Outside Diameter of the detachable Bell, itself, is 4 & 11/16ths Inches. The Valves and the Slides ALL WORK and are in PRISTINE Condition, No Scarring, or Scratches. They make a nice "POP" sound as they are pulled out ! The Mouth Piece is also Pristine and is LABELED *JEFTONE* Symphony Model "B" Included One "LYRE" shaped Music holder, for Marching. The Instrument CASE is in Great Shape for it's age, No Fungus or BAD Smells, the Plush Fabric is in Very Good Shape with NO Tears, or Holes. The SPRINGS in both of the Latches still SPRING up-right when you push the Buttons sideways to release them. The Outside of the Case has some scuffing, but all stitching is intact. In addition to all this, there is the ORIGINAL PAPERWORK: Both of the 2 Guarantee Cards (against any defects for 50 YEARS, Sorry it expired in 2006).are here, and one was never posted to the Martin Co. (even though it was only the cost of a 2 cent stamp). The "M" shaped "Care" Instructions Booklet, the "Thank You" note to the purchaser from the President of Local #285, of the U.A.W.-C.I.O. George Olsen, in Elkhart, Indiana. The 2 keys for the Latch Locks, and their slightly torn, paper envelope. AND IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH, there's that enigmatic DECAL stuck next to the "Martin" Shield that reads: PARAMOUNT PICTURES, JERRY LEWIS PRODUCTIONS INC. HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA. Hmmmm. My question is: "Does anybody out there in Ebay-LAND, KNOW if Mr. Lewis used this Trumpet in a FILM ? Huh ???" When I mentioned in the header that this is a RARE Trumpet, well it is RARE, because I can't find much on-line, about the Martin Company making many of these instruments, (perhaps there are some experts who are reading this, that can help me out ?) In the 1980s, the King Musical Instrument Co. of Elkhart, made their own version, called the King Silver Flair # 2055 DZ "U" (for up-turned) Dizzy Gillespie Model. This was under license from Mr. Gillespie himself. There is ONE of this Make "On Sale" for $1,499 USD and recently, a regular Committee Trumpet sold for $1,375 USD. So hope that you will find my Reserve to be on the Low Side. Happy Bidding, Your Horn Tooting, "Vielleur" AKA "Sean the Piper"
