I've been playing the melodica for over 30 years (I have the expensive Piano 36 model) and even though the S-32 model is not made in Germany I can't really tell that much difference in the tone between the two (at least not that much to justify more then twice the amount...the German made HM-32 sells for $99.99) !
This is an ideal keyboard to take along with you on vacations or outside for those jam sessions in the woods, along side that camp fire. Also great to keep in the car so when that opportunity to jam presents itself, you'll always will be ready to boogie (that's where I keep mine)! I also use mine to figure out song keys and chord charts to requested songs that my wedding band always gets hit with, without firing up my whole studio computer/midi keyboard set-up. How about this for barber shop musical groups? It makes a great musical surprise gift, something a musician probably doesn't have in their instrument line-up, but wish they had after they play one and use one the way I do!
Why buy a "vintage" melodica that had someone's mouth already on it. Buy a brand new sanitary melodica!
Hohner 32 piano key melodica
This is the latest addition to the Hohner Melodica family and offers a range of more than two and a half octaves to play soprano and alto. The 32 keys start on the F below middle C, which is ideal for both beginners and professionals. Deluxe carrying case and mouthpiece are included. There's even a long flexible white tubing with a mouthpiece attached that allows you to play the melodica on a flat surface so you can play with both hands similar to playing a piano or keyboard. It's like having a portable acoustic piano. Underneath the instrument is a "spit valve" button that allows the release of your saliva. There is no owner's manual included, but all you do is blow and play the keyboard at the same time!
The melodica is plastic and weighs 1 pound 5 oz. It's length is approx. 16 inches, the width (top key area) is 4.25 inches and it's 1.5 inches high. The case's dimension is 19 x 4.5 x 3. You can hold it with the attached bottom strap with one hand and play it with the other hand or lay it on the table, attach the long hose to blow in, and play it with two hands like how you would play a small keyboard. Since it works off of your breath when you blow into it, it'll play as many notes as you can hold down!
No batteries needed, similar sound to a harmonica or the old fashion pump reed organ of yesteryear. Great for duplicating an accordion sound for that rock "Hooter" sound, Cajun/New Orleans style music, or for Polkas! (Can't forget those polkas since I'm from Pennsylvania-the polka of choice in the movie Ground Hog Day :)

Disclaimer:
I check each melodica for damage or severe scratching before I ship to you. Each inspection involves a visual check. This inspection does not involve testing the notes by blowing into the melodica because I have no way of testing them without putting my mouth on the instrument--health laws prohibit me from doing this. There may be some very small surface scratches that appear on the keys due to the manufacturing process. These are very hard to see and only show up if you catch them in the "right light".
Also on a rare occasion, on some of them (not all), there may appear very small faint black "dots" (about the size that would be made with a sharpie) on some of the white keys apparently caused in the manufacturing process. They are underneath the surface of the keys (can't be buffed out) and are only a cosmetic blemish-it has no effect on the playability. So if any of these blemishes might bother you-please do not bid. Lately I haven't seen any models with these blemishes.
