A. Pond & Co. New York, which was a Music Store in New York during the mid-19th century and into the Victorian Period. The head measures 11 3/8” in diameter with 36 hooks holding the tone ring and head in place. The fret board measures 17 7/8” long and the overall length of this 5-string banjo is 35” not counting the carved natural material tailstock. Three of the five original tuning keys are missing the two that are still there are also carved from a natural material. There are no damages or repair to the 19th century Banjo and the neck is still nice and straight. The Mother of Pearl inlay is also in perfect condition. … I found on the net that William A. Pong had Banjos made for his shop by many various makers. With a little research I’m sure you will be able to trace the maker’s name. With just a little TLC and a couple of pegs this banjo is ready to play. To make sure that some eBayer gets a chance to make music again, with this antique banjo there is No reserve. …… If you get a chance please check out my other auctions. Although I am not a Musical Instrument Dealer I do find Vintage examples in my search for antiques in southern New England and list them all on eBay.
