Here is an old (circa late 1940’s) RCA Dual Passive Equalizer, model MI-4162. This probably would have been used at a broadcast studio or transmitter location in conjunction with a line or high gain audio amplifier to correct equalization on a source or telco audio feed. The front panels contain two 10-position rotary switches that vary the amount of inductive resistance used in conjunction with a ‘L/C’ network. The schematic diagram is provided on the side of the two XT-1314 Equalizer ‘cans’.
Connections are made on the back panel center-mounted barrier strip.
Across-the-terminal resistance variation tested OK with a simple VOM test on both equalizer circuits. Also seemed to slightly vary the equalization with line level audio in and out, although it was difficult to tell since putting it ‘in line’ with modern low impedance audio equipment probably did not provide the optimal match for it to function as intended.
This unit measures approximately 3-1/2 inches high x 19 inches wide x 4-1/2 inches deep.
Cosmetically this unit is in fair condition. There are some small nicks and panel discoloring on the front panel. A ‘repaint’ would be a simple matter with a quick front panel removal of the knobs, rotary switch ‘nut’ and escutcheon plates, should the winning bidder decide to do.
There is no reserve on this nice old unit! It could be of value in a custom equalizer project for a by using in conjunction with a tube audio preamp, or for the components; or a neat item for your collection.
