Bet you haven't seen one of these before? Up for auction, a very rare special limited production run of Putnams ,United Recording Electronics Industries (Urei) 1176LN 1B. These were custom requested to have a filter in them to further enhance intelligebility, high frequency pre-emphasis is added ahead of the gain reduction circuit. This increases the audibility level of the music or voice. 300 were ordered at the time, and used sparingly until taken out of service in the late 80's ,early nineties.
Serial number 120, manufactured in March 1976, pretty much at the exact same time as the black versions,as you can see by the original manual that is pretty much exact. Reading through, you'll find things pretty much the same, other than a roll off starting to drop around 9 K to met broadcast requirements.Much like the eariler neuman U47's,U67's and M49 tube microophones. With some small exchange, I'm sure one could make these full frequency should you want to, but I'm not a tech, so I'll leave that you whom ever wants to.
A number of special features in these:
A.Very fast attack time, assisted by diode clipping in the output circuit to eliminate overshooting.
B.A very fast release time
C.High frequency pre-emphasis ahead of the AGC circuit
D.A sharp cut-off low pass filter ahead of the AGC circuit
E.A choice of matching or bridging input circuits
F.A combination of course or vernier output controls.
Full manual, schematics, operating instructions etc are all included in the manual.
