Vintage fancy archtop
guitar Calace project 1940s
Ca. 1940s archtop guitar that needs a lot
of work:
Completely stripped off finish, several
cracks to top, back, sides and heel, no case and tailpiece, some tuners without
pegs.
But here is the good stuff:
Apparently made as a high end master guitar
by the famous Italian maker Calace. Hand signed by the maker inside, next to a
stamped-in small picture of the maker. Cool!
Calace is well know to have made some of
the finest (bowl back) mandolins in the world.
I have only seen one other Calace archtop. Flamed
maple back and side, spruce top, very fancy multi-coloured inlayed binding to
top and wooden pickguard, multi-coloured MOP overlay to fingerboard and
peghead. 17 inches wide and rather light weight for a guitar of this size – a worthy project for
someone with skills (and time).
No reserve, you decide what it is worth …
