Wonderful 1948 Martin 000-18. Serial number 107776. Light weight, nice, woody sounding guitar. I am no expert and will describe it as best as I can. Solid Brazilian rosewood unbound fret board. Short scale (24.9") 1 11/16" width at the nut. Nice book matched spruce top. Brazilian rosewood bridge with long drop in saddle. I had this instrument checked out by my guitar tech and he says all internal bracing and bridge plate are original and intact. Solid mahogany back/sides and neck. Brazilian headstock overlay with original tuners.
Finish appears to be original but there is some overspray on the back and sides, and back of the neck. Appears to be an older overspray. It has honest play wear; You can see wear above and below the strings and behind the pick guard. There is also wear around the treble side of the sound hole and a little wear in front of the pick guard. I hesitate to mention it, but there is an ever-so-slight, elevated area behind the bridge. The neck has been off the guitar some time before I owned it, but the neck joint appears to be tight. (You can see glue residue inside near the serial number.) The Brazilian rosewood bridge has a stable crack in it. It had a pick guard crack which I had repaired and it appears to be very tight and stable. In the process the pick guard was removed and reapplied. There is a crack in the upper bass side, and a crack on the treble, waist side. Both are stable and do not affect playability. There is an indentation the runs along the soundboard on the bass side. My repair tech indicates that this is not a crack but was caused by a scratch of some sort. Some finish lifting on the front and back of the headstock. The guitar has finish crazing and checking throughout as one expects to see in an instrument of this age. Strap button installed on the neck.
Action is bluegrass high action and if you want it lower, the neck will need to be reset. However, it plays fine and is not a problem. I did not have the neck reset as I thought it comfortable to play in its current state. Non-original Martin Molded case.
